Meet The Trainer With A Secret Identity

Our spotlight this week has a remarkable backstory. At first glance, Amira might seem like your typical WCF personal trainer - dedicated, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist. But beneath the surface lies a journey so wild you'd think it was fiction.

Thailand's Dancing Princess

Long before Amira was helping WCF members perfect their form, she was perfecting her own on national Thai television. When she wasn't learning at-home Tae Bo from DVDs with her mom, four year old Amira began classical Thai dance training, a discipline that would shape her life for years to come. By middle school, her talent had catapulted her onto screens across Thailand, a feat that might have been the pinnacle for many young performers. But for Amira, it was just the beginning. Apparently, primetime TV wasn't quite thrilling enough.

Confidence Unleashed

College brought new challenges and unexpected opportunities. On a whim, Amira took a Zumba class that would change her trajectory. The rhythm, the movement, the sheer joy of it all - it resonated with her in a way that echoed her dance background but offered a type of confidence she hadn't experienced before.

Soon, she wasn't just taking classes; she was leading them, spreading that same infectious energy and confidence from college campuses to assisted living centers. She went from dancing on TV to dancing with octogenarians. Talk about range!

The Accident That Changed Everything

In 2019, fate threw Amira a curveball. A bouldering accident left her with a broken ankle and three months of forced inactivity. For someone who had been in constant motion since childhood, this could have been devastating. Instead, it became the catalyst for her most dramatic transformation yet.

Confined to her home, Amira discovered Lucha Underground, a telenovela-style wrestling show that captivated her imagination. What started as a way to pass the time became an obsession, then a calling. Most people take up knitting when they're laid up. Amira chose professional wrestling. As one does. "I could do this thing that's also dangerous, why not?" she jokingly said.

From Spectator to Competitor
Most people would be content to remain fans. Amira isn't most people. As soon as she could walk again, she was seeking out live wrestling events. When a pro wrestling school opened in Hillsboro, Oregon, Amira didn't hesitate. She enrolled, trained, and made history as the school's first female graduate.

In 2022, barely a year after she first stepped into a wrestling ring, Amira made her professional debut.

More Than Sport
For Amira, wrestling isn't just about physical prowess. It's a unique blend of athleticism and performance that harkens back to her days as a dancer, with storytelling and theater sprinkled in. It's a way to challenge herself, to push through mental hurdles, to conquer fears - including a newfound fear of heights after her accident. Ironically, conquering this fear involved a lot of being slammed to the ground.

But perhaps most importantly, it's become a way to inspire others. Amira takes pride in showing kids, especially young girls, that they can hold their own in any arena. Nothing says 'gender equality' quite like a well-executed suplex.

Today, Amira brings that same spirit of fearless exploration to her work at West Coast Fitness. Her diverse background allows her to connect with members from all walks of life, one of her favorite aspects of the gym, which see sees as a place for everyone.
