Smoke, Sun, and Sweat, PLUS Vote Us To Victory!
While the air outside has been taking it easy on us, we're here to clear the haze on some burning questions in case things go sideways. Buckle up, buttercup - it's time for a breath of fresh... facts.
When Breathing Gets Spicy
Look, we know you're hardcore, but maybe leave the fire-breathing to the circus performers. With the Oregon wildfires scorching a record-breaking 1.4 million acres, here are some tips in case things go up in smoke for us:
Check the Air Quality Index (AQI) like it's your ex's Instagram. Anything over 150? Take it inside, champ.
Mask up if you must venture out. Move over, Deadpool and Wolverine .
Hydrate like you're lost in the Sahara. Your lungs will thank you for not turning them into beef jerky.
Vitamin D: The Sunshine Vitamin (That Isn't Actually a Vitamin)
Turns out, this little ray of sunshine is crucial for more than just your mood. And it's actually a hormone:
It helps calcium absorption. Strong bones = less time explaining to your friends why you're in a full-body cast.
Boosts muscle function. Because bicep curls are hard enough without your arms going on strike.
Supports immune function. "Sick days" are for hitting the mountains, not for missing workouts.
But before you go sunbathing 24/7...
Sun's Out, Guns Out (But Maybe Put Some Sunscreen on Those Guns)
Yes, you need sun exposure for Vitamin D. No, you don't need to look like a lobster at your next pool party. Here's the deal:
10-30 minutes of midday sun a few times a week should do the trick.
Use sunscreen. SPF 30 or higher. Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming. Melanoma is not a good look on anyone.
Can't get outside? Vitamin D supplements exist. So you too can have a pocketful of sunshine.
